Tennis is a popular sport. There are tennis courts everywhere from public parks to exclusive country clubs. People also have tennis courts at their homes. All the players want to make sure that they have the right equipment to play. They spend a lot of time and money on getting the right racquets and the right Tennis Balls. But they often forget to think about some of the most important things to play tennis. That is the net and the tennis net posts.
Tennis posts are important because they make sure that the net is at the right height and the right tension. If the net isn’t at the right height then it can disturb the game because balls that should have gone over it won’t. A mushy net with the wrong tension can do the same. Proper placement of the posts is important. The posts should be set outside the sideline by 3 feet. This makes them 42 feet apart. That’s 33 feet for doubles and singles play.
The key difference in tennis net posts is the way that the tension is maintained. One type of post has a cap with a pulley in it. This kind has a cap that sits securely on top of the post and any post sleeves. Inside the cap is a pulley. The net’s cables are guided into the pulley. It is then possible to make sure that the net has the right tension by adjusting the pulley. The pulleys can be made of most metals, but are generally made from stainless steel because it is stronger and more durable. The rest of the post is usually steel.
Another kind of tennis net posts is one that has a crank instead. This kind of post has an assembly that screws into the sleeves on the post. The cable is then fed through the crank. The crank can be internal or external. To make sure that the net is at the right tension all anyone has to do is turn the crank.
Permanent tennis net posts are set into the concrete that makes up the tennis court. They are anchored down and are left all year round, even when the net is taken down. They need to be very secure and resistant to all weather. These tennis posts may have removable caps so that the tensioning devices can be changed as necessary.
Semi-permanent posts are anchored to an anchor point. They can be taken down for winter, or so the tennis courts can be used for other purposes. They are better for people who don’t have a space that is completely dedicated to tennis, like a tennis court that is also used as a basketball court.
While most people only think that things like racquets and balls are important to play tennis there is another thing needed before any game can be played. That’s a net that is at the right height and right tension and held up by tennis net posts.
